Lycopodium - Celebrating 25 Years
A 2004 mining project in a new gold belt in Ghana is seen as the point where a Western Australian engineering firm that has just turned 25 hit the big time.
F or Lycopodium managing director Peter De Leo that job was a career milestone too because he was the project director.
“It was a landmark project for the business,” he said.
“Here we were delivering tier one assets for tier one clients.” De Leo is referring to the Ahafo gold project of Newmont Mining Corporation located in western Ghana.
Lycopodium secured the EPCM contract for the 7.5 million tonne per annum plant in 2003, commenced construction in 2004 and delivered first gold for the US$450 million project on July 18, 2006.
It was a red-letter day for De Leo and the entire project team on site. The project also cemented a relationship with Newmont that continues to this day.
